How to take
Ayurvedic way - Add half a teaspoon to half a teaspoon of ghee or honey in a small bowl and eat it with boiled rice, as a first bolus.
Western way - Add half a teaspoon to a glass of warm water. Add honey, maple syrup, or ghee to taste. Drink as a warm digestive energising tea in winter or after meals. You can also add half a teaspoon of Hingwashtak churna to salads, smoothies or soups.
Ingredients
Asafoetida (primary ingredient) - widely used in Indian ayurvedic cooking. It helps with stimulating appetite, taste, and supports digestion whilst destroying harmful bacteria in the gut.
The resin-like gum comes from the dried sap extracted from the stem and roots, and is used as a spice throughout India and Asia and Persia (Iran). It has been mentioned in the Bhagwat Purana ( 4000 year old Hindu Vedas), by Alexander the Great and and by Arabian physicians.
The resin is greyish-white when fresh, but dries to a dark amber colour. The asafoetida resin is difficult to grate and is traditionally crushed between stones or with a hammer, or in industrial grinders. Today, the most commonly available form is compounded asafoetida, a fine powder containing 30% asafoetida resin, along with rice flour, fine wheat flour and gum arabica.
Trikatu (ginger, black pepper and long pepper mixture in equal parts) - this celebrated spice mix helps stimulate digestion, detox the gut and destroy harmful bacteria. It is known to help warm up the body through improved circulation which in turn relieves aches and pains.
Ajwain - a spice used to relieve mild aches and pains in the body as well as to cleanse the gut of microbes. It is used for relieving Intestinal Colic. and menstrual pains.
Rock Salt: helps stimulate appetite and works as a vehicle for the herbs to be absorbed better and enhances function. Also provides minerals and salts for muscles and tissues.
White and black cumin: anti flatulent- removes had and bloating - and digestive. ALSO GETS RID OF UNWANTED MICROBES IN THE GUT.
